The integration gave users direct access to liquidity across Uniswap v2, v3, v4, and UniswapX. Since then, the API has processed more than $126M of volume for users and, on average, is winning more MetaMask swaps than any other swap provider on Ethereum Mainnet.
The integration bar
MetaMask already runs a multi-provider swap architecture, comparing quotes across swap providers to give their users the best price. The bar for adding a new source is high: the integration has to provide competitive pricing to earn routed volume, and it has to ship without creating engineering work that competes with the rest of the wallet's roadmap.
Direct access to the protocol with Uniswap API
MetaMask integrated Uniswap API, which handles the full swap lifecycle — quoting, routing, and execution — in a single call. The API provides access to onchain and offchain liquidity, powered by efficient routing across Uniswap Protocol and UniswapX, which has historically delivered meaningful price improvement for swappers against the leading aggregator. Coverage spans 18+ chains out of the box, with routing across every version of the Uniswap Protocol.
The same API powers swaps across Uniswap Labs' own apps and serves OKX, Privy, Anchorage Digital, Fireblocks, Talos, and more. MetaMask's engineering team was able to go live without sales calls or onboarding cycles, using published documentation and a self-serve API key. The API is completely free to use, with no subscription fees and no per-call charges. That means MetaMask retains full control over how swaps are monetized inside the wallet.

Within weeks of launch, Uniswap became one of the largest sources of liquidity for MetaMask users, now processing ~31% of MetaMask swaps on Mainnet, often winning more swaps than any other swap provider on Ethereum.
