SMBC Nikko, one of Japan's largest securities firms, and Nethermind are building the DeFi Gateway, an onchain trading venue for Japanese investors on Uniswap v4. It combines custom liquidity pools designed around Japan's regulatory requirements with a new liquidity provisioning protocol that seeds them. Uniswap Labs, Base, and Nyx Foundation are supporting development. Completion is targeted for mid-2027.
DeFi Gateway pools are built on the Uniswap Protocol, which has handled more than $4.7 trillion in volume with zero hacks. Inside each pool, hooks run AML/CFT checks and investor protections.
Liquidity will cover stablecoins, real-world assets (RWAs), and other digital assets. The pool framework will be open for other teams to build on.
SMBC Nikko and Nethermind will also build AI-powered vaults and interfaces for onboarding investors. Uniswap Labs is advising on integration and liquidity deployment. To learn more about the DeFi Gateway, read the full press release here.
